Hezbollah‑Latin America Drug Links; Pakistan Campus Disorder
A Pakistan Senate sub‑committee chaired by Senator Palwasha Mohammad Zai Khan warned of a deteriorating law‑and‑order situation at Quaid‑e‑Azam University driven by illegal hostel occupants, ethnic student councils and drug‑related activity. Police told the panel an FIR (No. 435, 29 July 2025) led to the arrest of 43 people — including current students, alumni and illegal occupants — and the seizure of weapons and large quantities of narcotics (5,420 g charas, 622 g ice, 510 g heroin), with multiple related cases filed. Separately, the U.S. Senate International Narcotics Control Caucus held hearings where former officials and experts testified that Hezbollah has been tied to Latin American drug‑trafficking networks and trade‑based money‑laundering that threaten U.S. border security. Witnesses including Ambassador Nathan Sales, Marshall Billingslea and Matthew Levitt identified Venezuela under Nicolás Maduro as a key hub for Hezbollah’s financing and cocaine transit routes and said U.S. partners have intercepted Venezuelan vessels alleged to be involved in smuggling. Lawmakers said the testimony prompted stepped‑up U.S. efforts to disrupt Caribbean trafficking and investigate narco‑terror links in the Western Hemisphere.
