US judge delays Lockerbie bombing trial of Abu Agila Mas'ud
The trial of Abu Agila Mas'ud, a Libyan national accused of involvement in the 1988 Lockerbie bombing that killed 259 people, has been postponed due to the case's complexity and the extensive evidence required for preparation. Originally set for May 12 in Washington, U.S. District Judge Dabney L. Friedrich agreed to delay the trial following requests from both the prosecution and defense teams. Lawyers cited the need for more time to manage voluminous discovery, including evidence from multiple countries, as well as to formulate a defense strategy. No new trial date has been established yet, and the case remains under review. Mas'ud denies the charges against him, while the legal proceedings continue to draw attention to the historical context of the bombing. The investigation into the case has been revived since the fall of the Gaddafi regime, leading to renewed scrutiny of Mas'ud's alleged role.
