Ellen DeGeneres and her wife Portia de Rossi moved permanently to the UK after President Donald Trump's reelection, purchasing a $20 million, 43-acre estate in the Cotswolds. They initially planned to use the property as a part-time retreat but soon decided to stay full time, only to realize the estate lacked the horse facilities needed for Portia, prompting a move to a larger nearby property better suited for their equestrian lifestyle. The original estate, featuring a 16,000-square-foot main house, guest cottage, gym, pool, party barn, and other amenities, was extensively renovated in about 4.5 months. The couple is now selling the renovated estate, listed at around $30 million (approximately £22.5 million), down from the originally reported £30 million asking price. Ellen expressed her love for the UK's beauty, simpler lifestyle, and treatment of animals, contrasting it with concerns in the U.S., including efforts to reverse gay marriage. Despite their brief stay at the first home, they appear committed to their new life in the UK, with plans to marry there if necessary.
