House Oversight Committee Releases Over 33,000 Jeffrey Epstein Documents
The Republican-led House Oversight and Accountability Committee has released over 33,000 pages of documents related to the Jeffrey Epstein case, aiming to make the materials public as quickly as possible while redacting victim identities and child sexual abuse content. Committee Chairman James Comer met privately with Epstein victims and pledged to upload the files promptly, amid bipartisan efforts in the House to force the Department of Justice to disclose all relevant records. Some Democrats suspect the Justice Department is withholding information to protect President Trump, who had associations with Epstein in the 1990s, though Maxwell, Epstein's accomplice, denied witnessing any inappropriate behavior by Trump. A proposal by Representatives Thomas Massie and Ro Khanna to mandate the release of unclassified Epstein records has faced criticism from House Speaker Mike Johnson for lacking victim protections, with the Oversight Committee viewing it as redundant. Victims who met with lawmakers plan to hold a press conference, and Comer intends to interview Maxwell, who is currently serving a 20-year sentence and seeking to overturn her conviction. The Justice Department continues to produce records as requested, but a federal judge recently denied a DOJ motion to unseal grand jury transcripts, calling it a diversion from the extensive files already in government possession.
