Fox Corp. Faces Shareholder Lawsuit Over Defamation

Fox Corp is facing a shareholder lawsuit from five public employee pension funds, including those from New York City and Oregon, which accuses current and former executives, including Rupert and Lachlan Murdoch, of neglecting liability risks associated with Fox News' false claims regarding election fraud in 2020. The lawsuit highlights past defamation cases involving Dominion Voting Systems and Smartmatic USA, with Dominion securing a $787 million settlement from Fox last year and Smartmatic seeking $2.7 billion in damages. The plaintiffs argue that Fox executives prioritized profits over accountability, ignoring internal warnings about the risks of airing unsupported claims. Additionally, the lawsuit references the 2017 reporting connected to the murder of Democratic staffer Seth Rich, which Fox News retracted after legal challenges. Fox's legal team is pushing to have the lawsuit dismissed, citing procedural flaws and lack of evidence of bad faith oversight. A ruling from the Delaware court is expected within 90 days.
