Wonome Earle-Sears Launches Virginia Governor Campaign

Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears has officially announced her candidacy for the Republican nomination for governor of Virginia in 2025, aiming to make history as the first woman to hold the position in the state. Earle-Sears, who previously made history as the first Black woman to serve statewide in Virginia, seeks to build on the policies of outgoing Governor Glenn Youngkin, who is unable to seek reelection due to state law. Currently, she is set to face U.S. Rep. Abigail Spanberger, the presumptive Democratic nominee. Earle-Sears' campaign emphasizes not only the historic nature of her run but also her commitment to improving life for all Virginians. Her background includes a Marine veteran status and a history of political achievements, including defeating a long-term Democrat to enter the House of Delegates in 2001. Should she win, Earle-Sears would also become the first Black woman governor in U.S. history.
