Texas Hill Country Floods Kill 120, Cloud Seeding Denied as Cause
Deadly flash floods in Texas in early July 2025, which claimed over 120 lives, sparked widespread conspiracy theories linking the disaster to cloud seeding operations conducted by Rainmaker Technology Corporation. Despite social media speculation and political figures promoting these claims, including former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, meteorologists and atmospheric scientists firmly assert that cloud seeding cannot cause such large-scale flooding. Rainmaker's CEO, Augustus Doricko, confirmed a limited cloud seeding operation on July 2, releasing a small amount of silver iodide over a distant area, which produced only minor rainfall and was halted when storm activity was detected. Experts explain that cloud seeding can only enhance precipitation by up to 20% under ideal conditions and is tightly regulated, making it incapable of triggering the magnitude of the floods that resulted from natural weather factors, including remnants of Tropical Storm Barry. The misinformation has caused significant backlash, including threats against Rainmaker staff and increased security measures. Overall, scientific consensus and meteorological data confirm that the floods were a natural disaster unrelated to weather modification efforts.
