Virginia Man Charged After Protest Crowd Incident
Joseph R. Checklick Jr., 21, was arrested and charged with reckless driving after allegedly intentionally accelerating his SUV into a dispersing crowd at the end of a 'No Kings' protest in Culpeper, Virginia, on June 14. The incident occurred near James Madison Highway as participants left the peaceful demonstration, which was part of nationwide protests against President Donald Trump and coincided with a military parade in Washington, D.C. Police observed the reckless driving, quickly apprehended Checklick, and confirmed that at least one person was struck, though no injuries were reported and the victim remains unidentified. Checklick is being held without bond at Culpeper County Jail, with the possibility of additional charges as the investigation continues. The Culpeper Democrats, organizers of the protest, publicly thanked police for their swift response and urged witnesses to provide any information or footage to assist investigators. Authorities continue to seek public assistance as the case remains open.
