Cowboys Sign Star CB Daron Bland To $92M Extension After Parsons Trade
Following the trade of star pass rusher Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers, the Dallas Cowboys quickly utilized their newly available salary cap space to sign cornerback Daron Bland to a four-year, $92 million contract extension, which includes $50 million guaranteed. Bland, who had a breakout 2023 season leading the league with nine interceptions and setting an NFL record with five pick-sixes, now ranks as one of the highest-paid cornerbacks in the NFL. Despite missing several games in 2024 due to a foot injury, Bland is fully healthy for the 2025 season and is expected to play both inside and outside cornerback roles alongside fellow All-Pro Trevon Diggs. The move secures the Cowboys’ cornerback tandem for the near future, addressing one of their defensive strengths amid ongoing concerns about their run defense and the loss of Parsons. While some fans and analysts criticized the Cowboys for prioritizing Bland’s extension over re-signing Parsons, team owner Jerry Jones emphasized the strategic shift to reinforce other key players after Parsons’ departure. The Cowboys also acquired defensive tackle Kenny Clark in the Parsons trade, aiming to bolster the defensive line and mitigate the impact of losing their star edge rusher.
