Paxton Sues Dallas Over Gun Restrictions at City Venues

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has filed two lawsuits against the City of Dallas, alleging the city unlawfully bans licensed handgun carriers from entering the Music Hall at Fair Park and The Majestic Theatre, both managed or leased by city entities. Paxton argues these bans violate Texas law, which prohibits local governments from restricting licensed individuals from carrying handguns in most public venues, and claims Dallas has even threatened arrest for those attempting to exercise their rights. The lawsuits present evidence such as posted signs and security measures used to enforce the bans, asserting that these theaters do not qualify as locations where weapons are legally prohibited. Paxton's legal action follows a similar ongoing lawsuit over gun restrictions at the Texas State Fair. The complaints seek to reinforce state law and protect what Paxton describes as Texans’ rights to carry firearms for self-defense in public spaces.
