These incidents underscore the prevalence of the 'Fatal Five' driving offenses—careless driving, drink and drug driving, not wearing a seatbelt, using a mobile phone, and speeding—which are major contributors to serious and fatal road accidents in West Yorkshire. Careless driving alone accounts for more than half of all fatal and serious injuries on local roads. West Yorkshire Police, as part of the Vision Zero initiative, are committed to reducing road deaths and serious injuries to zero by 2040 through education and enforcement.
