As of September 29, 2024, Iowa has been experiencing hot and dry conditions, allowing farmers an average of 6.5 days suitable for fieldwork. Corn is progressing with 97% in the dent stage, 75% mature, and 11% harvested, while soybean harvesting has reached 27%. Topsoil moisture conditions are concerning, with 15% rated very short and 44% short. In Nebraska, corn and soybean harvesting is also underway, with 21% of corn and 26% of soybeans harvested. The USDA reports that Iowa's corn and soybean conditions remain strong, rated at 77% and 64% good to excellent, respectively.
