Memphis Voters Approve Gun Control Measures

Memphis voters have overwhelmingly supported three gun control measures, with 81.2% in favor of requiring permits for handgun carry, 79.9% against assault rifles, and 84% in favor of Red Flag Laws. Despite this strong support, the implementation of these measures faces uncertainty due to potential conflicts with state laws and threats from GOP leaders to withhold funding. The Memphis City Council placed these measures on the ballot after a legal battle, with a judge allowing the referendums to proceed. Additionally, voters approved several other measures, including a requirement for mayoral candidates to secure a majority vote and provisions for setting the salaries of city officials.
