Heather Morgan Sentenced for Bitfinex Laundering

Heather Morgan, known as 'Razzlekhan', was sentenced to 18 months in prison for her role in laundering Bitcoin stolen from the Bitfinex exchange, valued at over $10 billion today. Morgan's husband, Ilya Lichtenstein, who masterminded the 2016 hack, received a five-year sentence the previous week. Morgan pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges and assisted prosecutors, which contributed to her reduced sentence. The couple laundered approximately 25,111 Bitcoin using various schemes, including fake identities and darknet transactions. During the sentencing, Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly described their actions as deliberate and involved extensive planning, while Morgan expressed regret for her choices. Their case, one of the largest cryptocurrency thefts in history, is set to be dramatized in an upcoming film.
