Leeds Gang Jailed for Attempted Murder and Affray
Four gang members, including Kamahl Johnson, 19, and Zane Gatewood, 18, chased a 17-year-old rival through the streets of Leeds armed with guns and machetes on July 7, 2024. Their attempted shooting failed when the gun jammed, allowing the victim to escape through a convenience store. Witnesses alerted the police, leading to the arrest of the suspects who were later charged with attempted murder, affray, and firearm possession with intent to endanger life. Although they pleaded not guilty to attempted murder, they admitted to other charges. Johnson and Gatewood received seven years and two months in prison, a 17-year-old was sentenced to seven years and five months, and a 16-year-old received four years and nine months. The incident, captured on CCTV, highlighted the gang violence in Leeds and the dangers it poses to local communities.
