Pennsylvania Names 12 Finalists for 2026 Teacher of Year
The Pennsylvania Department of Education has announced the 12 finalists for the 2026 Pennsylvania Teacher of the Year award, recognizing educators who demonstrate exceptional support, engagement, and passion for their students. The winner will be revealed at a ceremony in early December 2025 and will represent Pennsylvania at local, regional, and national events, culminating in the National Teacher of the Year ceremony at the White House. Among the finalists are teachers from diverse regions, including Lancaster County, western Pennsylvania, and other parts of the Commonwealth. The program honors teachers who inspire students of all backgrounds and play active roles in their schools and communities. Last year’s Pennsylvania Teacher of the Year, Leon Smith, teaches social studies at Haverford High School and has 22 years of experience, while Ashlie Crosson, the 2024 Pennsylvania Teacher of the Year, became the first Pennsylvanian to be named National Teacher of the Year. Acting Secretary of Education Dr. Carrie Rowe emphasized the lifelong impact of excellent educators, highlighting the qualities exemplified by the finalists.
