Over 370 Hollywood Stars Condemn Israel Gaza Killings, Industry Silence

Over 370 actors and filmmakers, including Pedro Pascal, Mark Ruffalo, Joaquin Phoenix, Guillermo del Toro, Juliette Binoche, and others, have signed a letter condemning the film industry for its silence regarding Israel's military campaign and siege in Gaza. The letter, released on the opening day of the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, denounces the killing of Palestinian photojournalist Fatima Hassouna and her family, whose story is featured in a documentary premiering at Cannes. Signatories expressed shame over the industry's failure to speak out against the siege, highlighting the deliberate targeting of civilians and journalists in Gaza. Juliette Binoche, chairing the Cannes jury, initially refrained from endorsing the letter but later added her name and paid tribute to Hassouna during the festival's opening ceremony. The letter also addresses broader issues including far-right movements, fascism, and colonialism, urging the film community to use their platform to protect oppressed voices and reflect socially committed narratives.
