New Berlin Police Sergeant Charged with Misconduct

Sgt. Steven Dodson of the New Berlin Police Department has been charged with felony misconduct and misdemeanor possession of a firearm while intoxicated following an 11-month investigation into missing DEA-issued drugs intended for the K9 training program. The missing narcotics, which included heroin and cocaine, were discovered in May 2024, prompting an investigation by the Waukesha Police Department. Dodson, who was not part of the K9 Unit, was identified as a suspect and placed on administrative leave in December 2023. During a separate incident, he was arrested for driving while intoxicated and possessing a handgun. The New Berlin Police Department has taken steps to enhance security around narcotics storage and emphasized their commitment to accountability and community trust. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 28, 2024.
