Anthony Hemmerdinger Appointed Managing Director of Boots

Walgreens Boots Alliance has appointed Anthony Hemmerdinger as the new managing director of Boots UK and Ireland, effective November 4, succeeding Seb James. Hemmerdinger, who has over 30 years of retail experience, has served as the retail and operations director at Boots since September 2022, where he has led significant changes, including a beauty refit and brand expansion. His promotion comes amidst ongoing uncertainty regarding Boots' ownership, as Walgreens previously considered selling the business, although they have since shelved those plans. Under Hemmerdinger's leadership, Boots has seen positive trading results, with like-for-like sales rising by 6% in the latest quarter. He expressed pride in taking on the role, emphasizing Boots' unique position in the UK's health and beauty sector.
