Illinois Extends Contracts for Three Head Coaches

The University of Illinois has announced pending six-year contract extensions for men's basketball coach Brad Underwood, football coach Bret Bielema, and an extension for women's basketball coach Shauna Green, all subject to Board of Trustees approval. Brad Underwood's new deal runs through the 2030-31 season with a $4.4 million annual salary and increasing retention bonuses, rewarding his leadership and recent Elite Eight appearance. Bret Bielema's contract extends through 2030 with a starting annual salary of $7.7 million, retention incentives, and possible further extensions, reflecting his success in achieving a 10-win season capped by a Citrus Bowl victory in 2024. Shauna Green was also extended after her team's continued success. Athletic director Josh Whitman highlighted the crucial roles all three coaches play in revitalizing Illinois athletics and ensuring stability amid changes in college sports. Each contract includes protections to ensure long-term commitment to Illinois.
