Met Police Volunteer Officer Faces Child Rape Trial in London

James Bubb, a Metropolitan Police volunteer officer who now identifies as Gwyn Samuels, is on trial for allegedly grooming and raping a vulnerable child he met online when she was 12 years old. Prosecutors allege that Bubb engaged the girl in sexual communications on Omegle before meeting her in person at a Christian festival, where he claimed they were in a relationship despite her being a minor. The court heard that Bubb asked the child to perform sex acts in public and had multiple sexual encounters with her, including taking her virginity and choking her to prevent speaking. The alleged victim described their relationship as a "trauma bond," and stated she did not realize she was being groomed at the time. Bubb faces multiple charges, including rape and sexual activity with a child, which allegedly occurred between 2018 and 2024, and he denies all allegations. Throughout the trial, the defendant and alleged victims are being referred to by their biological sex in court proceedings.
