Mogadishu beach attack
A terrorist attack by the Al-Shabaab group on a crowded beach in Mogadishu, Somalia, has resulted in at least 37 deaths and over 200 injuries, marking one of the deadliest incidents in the country since October 2022. The assault began with a suicide bomber detonating an explosive, followed by gunmen who opened fire on civilians. Somali Health Minister Ali Haji Adam confirmed that 11 people are in critical condition, and additional reports noted that one soldier was also killed during the attack. Al-Shabaab, linked to Al-Qaida, has a long history of targeting civilian areas in its insurgency against the Somali government. The attack has prompted the Somali government to intensify security measures and reaffirm its commitment to combating terrorism. Survivors described scenes of chaos as the attack unfolded, highlighting the group's intent to inflict maximum harm on civilians.
