Lewis Capaldi has highlighted the higher expectations and pressures female pop artists face compared to their male counterparts, praising women like Chappell Roan, Sabrina Carpenter, and Olivia Rodrigo for their elaborate and well-thought-out live performances. He noted that while many male artists, including himself, often perform simply in jeans and a T-shirt, female performers are expected to deliver theatrical and visually captivating shows or face harsher scrutiny. Capaldi described this as an unfair double standard, emphasizing that women get "picked apart" more when it comes to their stage presence and presentation. Despite this, he acknowledged exceptions among male artists such as Harry Styles and Benson Boone, who incorporate more theatrical elements. Capaldi recently made a triumphant return to music after a two-year hiatus due to health struggles, performing at Glastonbury where he received praise for his resilience. He admitted to currently preferring stripped-back performances focused on singing, though he recognizes the need to possibly enhance his live shows in the future.
