CrossFit Athlete Nayeli Clemente Dies After Collapse at Mexico Competition

Nayeli Clemente, a 24-year-old CrossFit athlete, tragically died after collapsing during the Team Pyramid Run at the Cholula Games in San Andrés Cholula, Mexico, amid high temperatures nearing 95-100 degrees Fahrenheit. She suffered a sudden cardiac arrest, which is believed to have been triggered by the intense exercise under extreme heat conditions. Although a doctor among the spectators provided emergency CPR and temporarily stabilized her, Clemente passed away shortly after arriving at the hospital. Her team and family criticized the event organizers for insufficient medical preparedness, citing slow, disorganized responses, inadequate paramedic presence, lack of equipment readiness, and difficulties accessing the course promptly. CrossFit, which licenses the Cholula Games as a third-party event, expressed condolences but underscored that the licensee is responsible for health and safety during competitions.
