F1 CEO Domenicali Expects Silverstone British GP To Stay Forever
Stefano Domenicali, Formula 1's chief executive, expressed confidence that the British Grand Prix at Silverstone will remain a permanent fixture on the F1 calendar, citing the circuit's unique capacity to host a major event in the UK and its historical significance since hosting the first world championship race in 1950. Silverstone currently has a contract through 2034 and recently secured an agreement with Liberty Media, F1's American owners, worth an estimated £300 million. Domenicali highlighted that Britain is the heart of Formula 1, with seven of the ten teams based there and the sport contributing around £12 billion annually to the UK economy, employing thousands directly and indirectly. Ahead of a meeting with Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Domenicali planned to discuss issues such as visa restrictions post-Brexit impacting staff movement, the need for improved infrastructure around Silverstone, and the sport's technological and economic importance. The Downing Street meeting also marks the 75th anniversary of the first F1 championship race and aims to foster stronger collaboration between the sport and the UK government. Despite the sport having long-term deals with other circuits like Miami and Austria's Red Bull Ring through 2041, Domenicali sees no viable rival location in the UK to replace Silverstone's role.
