UAE Denies Supplying Chinese Arms to Sudan’s RSF Amid Conflict
Amnesty International has reported that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) supplied Chinese-made weapons, including GB50A guided bombs and 155mm AH-4 howitzers, to Sudan's paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), violating a UN arms embargo. The UAE denies these allegations, calling the claims baseless and emphasizing that such weapons are widely available internationally, not exclusively sourced from the UAE. Despite these denials, the Sudanese government severed diplomatic ties with the UAE, accusing it of arming the RSF, which has been engaged in a brutal conflict with the Sudanese army resulting in tens of thousands of deaths and millions displaced. Amnesty's investigation, based on video and photographic evidence, highlights the use of advanced Chinese weapons in RSF attacks on Khartoum, Darfur, and other regions. International bodies, including UN experts and the US and UK governments, have also implicated the UAE in supplying arms to Sudanese warring parties, intensifying calls for enforcement of the arms embargo. The ongoing conflict continues to fuel a severe humanitarian crisis amid global inaction, with Amnesty urging the UAE to halt arms transfers to the RSF immediately.
