Parastarai Village Leads Water Conservation Efforts

Parastarai village in Chhattisgarh's Dhamtari district has become a model for water conservation, successfully reversing groundwater depletion through innovative farming practices and community initiatives. Recognized as one of the 150 districts at risk of groundwater depletion in 2022, the village has shifted from intensive paddy cultivation to less water-intensive crops like pulses and oilseeds. This transformation, supported by government initiatives and a strict fine system for farmers who plant paddy in the Rabi season, has significantly improved groundwater levels. The Dhamtari administration is hosting an International Water Conference on October 5-6 to showcase these efforts and discuss sustainable water management strategies. Villagers have also engaged in awareness campaigns, highlighting women's involvement in conservation efforts. The conference will bring together experts to share knowledge on water conservation and environmental management.
