MacKenzie Scott Gifts Record $42M to Alcorn State, $38M to Alabama State

Philanthropist MacKenzie Scott has made historic donations to two historically Black universities, Alcorn State University and Alabama State University, marking the largest single gifts in their histories. Scott donated $42 million to Alcorn State University, bringing her total contributions to the Mississippi institution to $67 million after a prior $25 million gift in 2020. This unrestricted donation will be used to support students, faculty, scholarships, and strategic campus priorities, reinforcing the university's mission to enhance access and success. Similarly, Alabama State University received a $38 million gift, its largest ever, which will fund the university's endowment, student success initiatives, research, technology, and community engagement as part of its Focus 2030 Strategic Plan. Both university leaders expressed profound gratitude for Scott's generosity, highlighting the donations as affirmations of their institutions' impact and potential. Scott's philanthropy is part of her broader effort, having given over $19 billion to thousands of organizations, especially focusing on educational institutions serving communities of color.
