Ocearch Hunts Great White Sharks Near Ireland

Scientists from the US-based research organization Ocearch have launched an expedition to locate great white sharks in the waters surrounding the UK and Ireland, areas that are deemed ideal due to their mild temperatures and abundant food sources, particularly grey seals. Despite numerous unconfirmed sightings and occasional hoaxes over the years, the team is optimistic about making the first official discovery of a great white in these regions. Chris Fischer, founder of Ocearch, describes this potential discovery as 'the shark heard around the world,' emphasizing its significance for future marine research. Shark expert Dr. Nick Payne from Trinity College Dublin highlights that the environmental conditions in these waters are 'perfect' for great whites, creating what he calls a 'Goldilocks environment.' The expedition has commenced near the Great Blasket Island in Co Kerry, known for its large seal population, which serves as a primary food source for these sharks.
