India Launches Semicon 2.0 at Greater Noida Event

India is advancing its semiconductor manufacturing ambitions with the upcoming launch of Semicon 2.0, a significantly expanded initiative expected to be released within the next 3-4 months, according to Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the importance of the semiconductor industry for the digital age and announced a $15 billion allocation for ISM 2.0, pending final cabinet approval. The initiative aims to strengthen the supply chain by focusing on raw materials, equipment, and chemicals. The SEMICON India 2024 event in Greater Noida, inaugurated by Modi, will see participation from over 250 exhibitors and 150 speakers, and will discuss India's semiconductor strategy and policy. To manage traffic disruptions due to the high-profile event, Noida Traffic Police have issued an advisory with several route diversions. The event is seen as a significant step towards establishing India as a leader in the global semiconductor industry.
