Late Friday night, a significant cave-in, measuring 20-24 feet deep, occurred at P&T Colony on Sahar Road in Andheri East, Mumbai, during tunnelling work for Metro Line 7A. Fifty residents from nine families were urgently relocated to a nearby hotel as a precaution. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) reported that no injuries or property damage occurred, and the hole was filled with cement overnight. Residents expressed frustration over the lack of prior warning about the tunnelling's proximity to their building. MMRDA halted tunnelling operations and stabilized the affected area, ensuring that work will only resume after confirming soil stability. The incident has left the displaced families anxious about returning to their homes.
