The Indian Coast Guard has arrested three Sri Lankan fishermen for illegally entering Indian waters near Rameswaram. The fishermen, identified as R. Niroshan (34), T. Bala Ramesh (37), and P. Pulaykumar (44), were apprehended while aboard a fibre boat that had drifted due to engine failure after leaving from Jaffna. Initially claiming to have lost their way, they were found with a damaged fishing net and no contraband. Following their arrest, they were handed over to the Tamil Nadu Coastal Security Group for further legal proceedings, under the Foreigners Act and Passport Rules. Investigations suggested they may have been involved in smuggling activities, as they were reportedly waiting for smugglers from the Indian coast. The fishermen have been remanded in judicial custody and are expected to be held at Puzhal Central Prison in Chennai.
