Former NYC Councilman Dan Halloran charged with child pornography in Miami

Former New York City Councilman Dan Halloran has been arrested at Miami International Airport and charged with possession and transportation of child pornography. During a routine inspection upon returning from a diving trip in Cuba, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers discovered 1,362 videos on Halloran's iPhone, including approximately 35 depicting prepubescent girls being victimized. Halloran admitted to knowingly possessing the illegal content, stating that two-thirds to three-quarters of the videos in a hidden folder showed child sexual abuse. This incident follows Halloran's previous conviction in 2014 for a bribery scheme related to the 2013 mayoral election, for which he served five years in federal prison. He was released early in 2020 as part of a COVID-19 response measure. Halloran's arraignment is scheduled for April 14.
