Türkiye and Sweden are set to hold their inaugural Security Compact meeting in Ankara, focusing on enhancing cooperation in counter-terrorism as part of Sweden's NATO membership bid. The meeting, co-chaired by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard, follows an agreement made during the NATO Vilnius Summit in 2023, which emphasized the need for Sweden to amend its anti-terrorism laws and curb support for groups like the PKK. Turkey had previously approved Sweden's NATO bid in January after addressing concerns over Sweden's approach to terrorism and lifting an arms embargo. The discussions will also cover bilateral ties and the implementation of a roadmap for counter-terrorism efforts. Both countries aim to solidify security cooperation in light of ongoing regional challenges, including threats from Russia.
