The Association of Very Large Power Grid Operators (GO15) emphasizes the urgent need for solutions to enhance global power grid stability as reliance on renewable energy sources grows. Their position paper coincides with the IEA's report highlighting that inadequate integration of variable renewable energy could lead to a decrease in renewables' share of the energy mix by 2030. Meanwhile, Fort Hunter Liggett has become the first U.S. military installation to implement a renewable-only microgrid, positioning itself to achieve net-zero status by 2030, ahead of federal sustainability goals. The evolution of power grids into smart grids is critical for managing distributed energy resources and improving energy efficiency. Despite advancements, the energy transition remains in its early stages, with only 10% of necessary low-emissions technologies deployed so far. As decentralized energy systems expand, grid operators must adopt innovative strategies to maintain stability while accommodating rising consumer demand for electricity.
