Aston Villa, Villarreal, PSG Discuss Marco Asensio Transfers

Aston Villa are actively pursuing the return of Marco Asensio from Paris Saint-Germain, considering either a permanent transfer or another loan deal. The 29-year-old Spaniard impressed during his loan spell at Villa last season, scoring eight goals in 21 appearances and showcasing his versatility, which has made him a key target for manager Unai Emery since October 2022. Although Villa face financial constraints and would likely need to offload players to finance the move, PSG may accept a reduced fee to offload Asensio, who has one year remaining on his contract. Villa's transfer activity this summer has been limited, aside from the signing of Evann Guessand, with a focus on retaining core players like Youri Tielemans and John McGinn. Meanwhile, Villarreal has also expressed interest in Asensio, proposing a deal that includes a compulsory purchase option due to PSG's reluctance to loan him without such conditions. Asensio has also attracted interest from clubs in Turkey and Saudi Arabia, but Aston Villa remain keen to secure his services ahead of their Premier League campaign kickoff against Newcastle United.
