UEFA Investigates Object-Throwing Incident in Stockholm
UEFA has launched an investigation after Khadija Shaw, a Manchester City striker, was struck by an object during their Women's Champions League match against Hammarby, which City won 2-1. Shaw scored both goals for City, securing their place in the quarter-finals, but was booked for excessive celebration after her first goal, during which an object was thrown at her. UEFA's statement confirmed proceedings against Hammarby for throwing objects, under Article 16(2)(b) of their Disciplinary Regulations. City captain Alex Greenwood criticized a broadcaster's portrayal of the incident, asserting that Shaw was unfairly portrayed as antagonizing the home crowd. Shaw commented on the challenging match atmosphere and the unfamiliar astroturf pitch. Manchester City will next face Leicester in the Women's Super League after the international break.
