Equinor, partners discover significant gas reserves in Norwegian Sea

Equinor and its partners, Okea and Pandion Energy, have announced a significant gas and condensate discovery in the Mistral Sør exploration well located in the Halten area of the Norwegian Sea. The discovery is estimated to contain between 19 and 44 million barrels of recoverable oil equivalent, reinforcing Norway's role as a key gas supplier to Europe. Grete B. Haaland, Equinor's Senior Vice President for Exploration & Production North, emphasized the importance of Norwegian gas to Europe’s energy security and noted the existing gas infrastructure in the area which supports development plans. The discovery was made in the Åsgard and Kristin area, near the largest undeveloped gas find, Linnorm. The commercial viability of the discovery has been confirmed, and the partners are considering options for tie-backs to existing infrastructure or joint development with nearby discoveries. The well was drilled to a depth of 4,024 meters and encountered a 45-meter hydrocarbon column with favorable reservoir properties.
