National Gallery Extends Van Gogh Exhibition Hours

The National Gallery in London will host a special 24-hour opening for its exhibition 'Van Gogh: Poets and Lovers' from 9 PM on January 17 to 10 AM on January 18, 2025, in response to high demand, having attracted over 280,000 visitors since its opening in September 2024. This marks only the second time the gallery has operated overnight, the first being in 2012 for the 'Leonardo da Vinci' exhibition. Director Sir Gabriele Finaldi expressed excitement for this unique opportunity, allowing visitors to experience the exhibition during night hours, reminiscent of the nocturnal visits by artists like Lucian Freud and Francis Bacon. The exhibition is especially notable for being the first solely dedicated to Vincent van Gogh, featuring over 60 works highlighting his imaginative transformations. As the gallery celebrates its 200th anniversary, this event is part of a series of commemorative activities, including other significant exhibitions. Tickets for the overnight access went on sale recently, with a rush expected given the exhibition's popularity.
