Daron Malakian's Scars on Broadway Announce New Album, Release Lead Single

Daron Malakian, guitarist and vocalist of System of a Down, has announced a new album with his project Scars on Broadway titled Addicted to the Violence, set for release on July 18. The lead single, "Killing Spree," addresses the taboo and troubling topic of violence among youth, particularly school shootings, and reflects on a generation described as detached, desensitized, and lacking empathy. Malakian, who composed, produced, and performed much of the album himself, emphasizes that the song is not meant to glamorize violence but to honestly depict a disturbing reality. He criticizes the current music scene for shying away from shock and offensiveness, which he believes are essential to rock music, and refuses to censor his work even if it offends listeners. The album release coincides with Malakian's 50th birthday, and he continues to tour actively with System of a Down, who have upcoming stadium shows this summer. Malakian expresses pride in both his Scars on Broadway work and his contributions to System of a Down, considering the new album among his best material.
