Nationwide Casting Call Seeks Golden Retriever For Air Bud Returns

The beloved Air Bud film franchise is set to release its 15th installment, Air Bud Returns, in summer 2026. Studios Air Bud Entertainment and Cineverse have launched a nationwide casting call to find the next purebred golden retriever to star as Air Bud, seeking a dog with athleticism and a love for basketball. Robert Vince, the creator and producer of the Air Bud series, announced the search and emphasized the importance of finding a dog that embodies the charm and heart of the original Air Bud. The new film follows 12-year-old Jacob, who, after the loss of his father, discovers an old Air Bud VHS and meets a stray golden retriever named Buddy, leading to a journey of healing and basketball. Dog owners can submit their pets for a chance to star and win prizes through the official Air Bud website. The franchise, which began in 1997, has grown to 14 films, with the original dog, Buddy, having been a stray found in 1989 who became an iconic sports movie dog.
