Sarah Fillier Signs With New York Sirens
The New York Sirens of the Professional Women’s Hockey League have signed Sarah Fillier, the first overall pick in the 2024 PWHL Draft, to a one-year contract. Fillier, a 24-year-old forward from Georgetown, Ontario, has an impressive background, including an Olympic gold medal and three gold medals from the Women's World Championships with the Canadian national team. The signing comes after a lengthy negotiation period attributed to the contract length, as Fillier's deal is shorter than those of her peers. Fillier expressed her excitement about joining the Sirens and her commitment to elevating women's sports and inspiring young female athletes. The Sirens hope that Fillier's energy and talent will help improve upon their last-place finish in the league's inaugural season. The team will play most of their home games at the New Jersey Devils' arena in Newark for the upcoming season, which begins on December 1.
