FIFA Lifts Republic of Congo Football Federation Suspension
FIFA has lifted its three-month suspension on the Republic of Congo's football federation, FECOFOOT, which was imposed due to third-party interference by the national sports ministry. The suspension had caused administrative paralysis, closure of federation headquarters, and postponed Congo's 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. FIFA required the return of full control of FECOFOOT's headquarters and facilities to its democratically elected executive committee before lifting the ban. Following negotiations, Congo's sports minister complied with FIFA's demands, allowing FECOFOOT to resume normal operations and reintegrate into international football activities. It remains undecided whether the postponed World Cup qualifiers will be rescheduled. This development restores FECOFOOT's autonomy and enables Congo's participation in upcoming international matches.
