Francisco Lindor to Captain Puerto Rico Again in WBC
Francisco Lindor, New York Mets shortstop, will captain Team Puerto Rico for the second time at the 2026 World Baseball Classic. Lindor previously earned MVP honors in Pool D in 2017 and is recognized as a leader for both the Mets and Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico, competing in Pool A in San Juan, will face Canada, Cuba, Panama, and Colombia in the first round and seeks redemption after a 2023 quarterfinals loss to Mexico. Lindor's leadership is especially significant amid high expectations following the Mets' acquisition of Juan Soto and a strong 2025 roster. Other MLB stars, such as Aaron Judge, have also been named WBC national team captains, reflecting the tournament's rising prestige. Lindor now faces major leadership responsibilities with both his MLB team and national squad.
