The Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections are set to take place in three phases on September 18, 25, and October 1, marking the first elections since the abrogation of Article 370. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced its first list of 19 candidates and plans to contest 60-70 seats without forming any alliances, while also supporting independent candidates. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is making its debut in the elections, announcing a list of seven candidates across various constituencies, including Fayaz Ahmed Sofi from Pulwama and Mehraj Din Malik from Doda. Additionally, the Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) led by former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has released a list of 13 candidates. The election results will be counted on October 4, with a total of 90 assembly constituencies in the region. Major parties such as the National Conference and Congress are contesting in an alliance, while others like PDP and BJP are running solo.
