In Portugal, a helicopter returning from firefighting operations crashed into the Douro River near Lamego, resulting in the deaths of at least four people, while the pilot survived with minor injuries. The helicopter was carrying members of the Emergency Protection and Rescue Unit (UEPS) of the national gendarmerie, and a large-scale search operation involving maritime police, divers, and Air Force helicopters is ongoing to find the missing individuals. The cause of the crash is currently under investigation. Separately, a Russian Mi-8 helicopter carrying 22 people crashed in the Kamchatka region due to poor visibility, with 17 bodies recovered and the remaining presumed dead. The causes of both crashes are under investigation.
