New York Liberty Reach Record $450M Valuation in Women’s Sports

The New York Liberty have become the most valuable professional women's sports franchise, achieving a record valuation of $450 million following a recent capital raise. This valuation more than doubles the previous highest known WNBA franchise valuation of $208 million held by the Dallas Wings and surpasses other women's teams like Chelsea Women. The capital raise is intended to support the construction of a state-of-the-art 75,000-square-foot practice facility in Brooklyn, designed by players and featuring private suites, multiple courts, and extensive training amenities, set to open in 2027. The Liberty, reigning WNBA champions, have also started their 2025 season strong, aiming to defend their title against competitive teams such as the Chicago Sky. Owners Clara Wu and Joe Tsai, who acquired the team in 2019 and relocated it to Brooklyn, envision the Liberty becoming the first billion-dollar women's sports franchise by the mid-2030s. This valuation milestone highlights the growing economic potential and visibility of the WNBA and women's professional sports overall.
