Delaware Man Killed in Early-Morning Smyrna Motorcycle Crash
Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred early on September 5, 2025, in Smyrna. A 59-year-old man from Clayton, Delaware, was riding a Yamaha X1A eastbound on Smyrna-Leipsic Road when he failed to negotiate a curve, causing the motorcycle to exit the roadway, enter a ditch, and strike a culvert pipe, which ejected the rider. The man was taken to a hospital where he died from his injuries. The victim has been identified as Joseph Laclair, though police withheld his name initially until his family was notified. The Delaware State Police Troop 3 Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate and is seeking witnesses or anyone with relevant information to contact Sergeant J. Wilson or Delaware Crime Stoppers. Support services are also available for victims, witnesses, and families affected by the crash.
