Designer Sonia Edwards sues Boohoo Group over copyright infringement

Welsh designer Sonia Edwards is suing Boohoo and several of its affiliated brands, including PrettyLittleThing and Nasty Gal, for allegedly infringing her copyright on five designs, including her signature 'Infinite' bikini top. Edwards, representing herself in court, claims that these companies have sold copies of her work and is seeking a court order to stop them from selling or importing the disputed items. Her legal argument centers on the assertion that the companies had prior knowledge of her designs, which she claims were displayed publicly before Boohoo's alleged infringements. In response, the retailers' legal counsel argues that any similarities are merely an 'abstract cluster of features' and therefore not protected under copyright law. Edwards, who began her design career in 2010, emphasizes her unique, self-taught approach, stating that she does not follow trends but instead creates based on her own artistic vision. The judge reserved judgment after hearing the case in the High Court in London.
