PML-N Seeks Support for Constitutional Amendments
Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa emphasized that political parties are not subordinate to judges, asserting that party heads have the authority over member deviations during a Supreme Court hearing on Article 63-A. Barrister Ali Zafar, representing Imran Khan, objected to the bench's composition and stressed that the Supreme Court improperly combined the presidential reference with constitutional petitions. Meanwhile, PML-N Senator Irfan Siddiqui clarified that proposed constitutional amendments are not directed at any individual, including CJP Isa, amidst speculation regarding his impending retirement. Siddiqui indicated that the amendments require JUI-F support to pass and expect resolution of the issues in the next two weeks. The coalition currently lacks the necessary votes in both houses to secure a two-thirds majority for the amendments. Discussions with JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman are ongoing to garner support for the proposed judicial package.
